Rhum

Rhum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugar cane (molasses) and cane syrup through a process of fermentation and distillation. The clear distillate is usually poured to "age" in oak or other wood barrels. An additional darker rhum color is obtained with the addition of caramel.

Rhum is part of the culture of many of the islands of the West Indies, it is also associated with the British Royal Navy and pirates and is produced in many varieties. Light ("white") rhums are generally used in cocktails, while "golden" and dark rhums are used in cooking. Premium brands of rhum are consumed neat or with ice.
